ABOUT THE ARTIST |
Carlos A. Rael was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico, lived his early life in Colorado, and has lived in Northern New Mexico for 36 years. Carlos is a decendent of Alonso Rael y Aguilar a member of the DeVargas force in the reconquest of New Mexico.
Carlos began is new career in art following a disabling injury in 1996. He began carving and painting in the religious art form traditional to Hispanic Northern New Mexico. A year later Carlos began a tutorship and friendship with Gustavor Victor Goler, master santero, and Robert Lavadie, master traditional woodworker. 1999 brought Carlos to International Traditional Spanish Market in Santa Fe.
